The Gorre & Daphetid Resurrection
For nearly 75 years the legend of John Allen's mythical Gorre & Daphetid has captivated generations of model railroad enthusiasts around the world. From humble beginnings in 1946 of a small layout in an equally small home in Monterey California to its third and final version, the Gorre & Daphetid was Allen's cornerstone in a lifetime spent defining, then redefining, the hobby. Before passing away of a heart attack in January of 1973, John Allen innovated layout design, model railroad construction and lifelike scenery techniques that appeared in countless magazine covers, articles and advertisements.
Ten days after his passing, a lifetime of work was lost in tragic fire that gutted Allen's final home at 9 Cielo Vista Terrace. Since then, the iconic Gorre & Daphetid (pronounced gory & defeated) has only grown in its magical influence.
Now artist Randy Decker is attempting what most thought impossible -- resurrecting a long lost masterpiece back to life.
